Thank you to curators Manda Jean and Sam Emery for inviting me to take part in the 'Connections - Stories of the Melbourne Landscape' group show, on at Tree Paper Comics in the Docklands from June 1st til June 23rd.

I revisited three pieces I'd put aside over a year ago, connecting them to my home of Melbourne by seeking hints of spatial and temporal essence then implanting, building and developing them to form a new creation of specific cultural identity; giving the hollow pieces purpose, like looking at a Rorschach of your own making, and in doing so uniting a past self to the new you and using the gulf as inspiration.

I know that's real wanky, but that's because I really just painted some more bits on three old paintings I really liked but which were meaningless haha. By giving these paintings titles it became obvious what they needed to be complete. I'm really grateful I was able to revive these works as the patterns and mark makings I was exploring at the time completely informed 'Cosmic Ocean'. They've now jumped forward in time and have taken inspiration from their successors. Love it.
