‘m4m - 20 YO Fit Caucasian - seeking reward’, 2018
Acrylic, gel pen, pencil on wood board. 61.5x52cm
‘This painting depicts a young man, a ‘digital sex-worker’ as implied by the title, against a black background of radiating mandala-like circles. This motif also evokes halos, and coupled with the dynamic gold lines and curves stretching from the figure they imply a religious, almost virginal quality. The textured background only comes to life in proper lighting, revealing a glossy, viscous and finely-rendered expanse of small brush marks, evoking the nighttime as well as more sensual textures such as leather and liquid. Finally, a hand extends from the bottom left - the boy’s, or his trick’s? Depending on one’s own sensibilities, these background qualities either suggest something sinister, perhaps seedy and reluctant, or they simply illustrate this young worker’s experience - the twinkling night, the ‘virgin’s’ gift, and his lover’s tender embrace.’
